Visiting the area and found this lovely spot. We had the egg and sausage bap and toast with scrambled egg and bacon. Coffee is devine!! Left with sausage rolls, apple and cherry turn overs, lemon meringue tart and a millionaire shortbread...... a little more then we bargained for only because we couldn't decide.

Honestly, I wouldn’t ever bother to leave a bad review based on quality, because I think sometimes you can just be unlucky. However when the staff are obnoxious and rude as well, it seems only fair. I entered the bakery for the first time this morning after driving past and thinking it looked really smart, they must do a good coffee and good food. Ordered a flat white and a sausage roll to take away, which the girl said she was going to heat up. Initially thought the girl was incredibly unenthusiastic but whatever. Plonked my flat white on the counter and just shouted “flat white” even though I was the only person standing there, fine. Stood there for a couple of minutes waiting for this sausage roll to appear, made it to about 5 minutes and the same girl walking past me about 3 times to serve people at tables, when I asked “how long for this sausage roll please”, she looked at me incredibly confused and said “what sausage roll”, so I explained to her that I ordered a sausage roll with her less than 5 mins ago. “Let me go check then” she said, comes out from the back with a bag soaked in grease and went “there it is”. So I thought ok no problem, can’t be bothered, crack on with my day and hope that the coffee and sausage roll is nice so I can forget about that interaction. Well, flat white was like warm, that is being quite generous too, absolutely no body to it at all, watery, milky warm drink, didn’t even smell like a coffee. THE SAUSAGE ROLL, pastry on the bottom cooked fine, middle and top completely raw, dripping in grease and the sausage meat, if that’s what you can call it did not taste anything like what it should, flavourless and horrible fatty slightly uncooked texture to it too. Honestly I don’t say this lightly, AWFUL experience, like woeful. As I said at the start, I don’t mind the odd bad bit of quality, it happens, but train your staff to interact with humans properly, maybe the odd memory test so they can remember who’s ordered what and get some manners. It might make the sausage roll and coffee a little more forgivable.

Although the food is alright.. wow the staff are absolutely useless strange and awkward.. was waiting for a baguette that they forgot to do kept giving me the wrong filling in the baguette.. just never had a simple easy time there it's always something they've forgotten or messed up.. seriously the staff needs training with the work and people skills so awkward !

The sourdough can not reasonably be called a sourdough. No texture or sourdough flavour. Did not taste or feel freshly baked either. Would not recommend.

A sad state of affairs but all good things must come to an end.
I've been visiting this local bakery for 25 years and have always enjoyed their wide range of breads from white rolls to wholemeal and seeded loaves. Unfortunately after being rebranded from "The Chalet" to the chain "The artisan bakery" it's seems there was a change of hands and an exodus of the staff. Some loaves and rolls have been removed entirely from the available options. The majority of the loaves still available have shrunk in size considerably and have changed the ingredients to the point that the bread is tasteless and bland. Take this image for example, on the left is the new offering of a wholemeal loaf from the artisan bakery, on the right is a wholemeal loaf from Coughlins. The Chalet used to bake wholemeal loaves just like the Coughlins one here. Unfortunately I will have to take my business elsewhere from now on, very sad.
