I’ve debated, going back and forth, as to whether I should post this. However, the more I think about what happened, the more disgusted I’ve become. I booked a braiding session for my birthday, and being natural I’d obviously invested a lot of time, care, and money in my hair and made sure to educate myself about my hair texture. So when I thought I saw the owner using scissors to trim the fly-aways poking out of the braid, I spoke up and asked if that’s what was happening, so if it were, I could simply ask for it to be foam wrapped instead. I was met with rude abrasive challenges on her knowledge of hair, by the end of which I was crying in her chair and told she saw absolutely nothing wrong with how she had spoke to me and the personal offence she had taken to a benign question. The way people treat you when you are alone is extremely telling because when another stylist came in she was suddenly sweetness and light and pretending nothing happened. I wish I had stood up for myself more and walked away tbh. I’d been coming here for years so I was genuinely taken aback by the sudden outburst I’d experienced. Maybe it’s because I’m a bit more comfortable advocating for myself when I’m in the chair, after the hearing and experiencing the horror stories black women go through at salons, most likely it’s because I was alone and seemed like an easy target, either way I hope the owner has learned that asking questions isn’t a threat to their lively hood, I came back again and again handing over my hard earned money, so clearly I thought I was in a place with a person I could trust and felt comfortable enough raising concerns. Instead of having my concerns eased I was bullied and broken down over a petty perceived slight.

I've been coming to this salon for years and they've treated my hair like their own! I highly recommend this place! It's not just a matter of doing your hair at this salon either, it's also a good laugh here if you choose to participate in the conversations. I always get compliments after getting my hair done here, they do it justice each time and they've had a big part in the growth of my natural hair. Thank you ladies.

Tionie is amazing at what she does, she is so talented in the hair industry, from what products to use & giving education & amazing advice on how to take care of my hair & so well priced & amazing value for money, super talented & an amazing skillset with the different ethnicities of hair she works on & textures etc! Always happy with my hair when I leave & my absaloute go too now, would not go anywhere else, very polite & professional & really listens to what you would like & advices what she thinks best in regards to the health and care of your hair, such a beautiful and authentic women, you can see her genuine passion and pride she takes in her job!
